Matt Sonnesyn

Senior Vice President, Policy

Matt Sonnesyn serves as Senior Vice President for Policy at Business Roundtable. In this role, he manages the organization’s public policy team, working with member CEOs and their staff to develop and support policies that promote a thriving U.S. economy and expand opportunity for all Americans. 

Prior to assuming this role, Sonnesyn led a variety of policy initiatives at the Roundtable, including on immigration, air traffic control, response to COVID-19, supply chain resilience, and manufacturing. Most recently, he served as Vice President for Infrastructure, Energy and Environment. In his 13 years at Business Roundtable, he has represented the organization at international conferences and testified before Congress.

Previously, Sonnesyn spent over a decade working for U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander in a number of roles, including as his Chief of Staff. He also served as policy director for two successful statewide campaigns in Tennessee. Before attending graduate school, he worked at the American Enterprise Institute. 

Sonnesyn holds a B.A. in International Relations and Spanish from Principia College and a Master’s of Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School. He, his wife Allison, and their dog Obi, live in Washington, D.C.
