Jim Rechtin started with Humana January 8, 2024, serving as President and Chief Operating Officer, reporting to CEO Bruce Broussard. Leveraging his more than 22 years of healthcare experience and expertise in delivery of value-based care in various medical group settings, Jim oversees Humana’s Insurance and CenterWell segments along with Enterprise Strategy, Corporate Affairs and IT functions. As part of a long-planned CEO transition, Jim will assume the CEO position the latter half of 2024.
Previously Jim was President and CEO at Envision Healthcare. Envision was a $7B company who had two major divisions –ambulatory surgery centers and the other operating medical groups in the hospital services space (Emergency Medicine, Anesthesia, Radiology).
Prior to joining Envision, Jim served as President of OptumCare, part of UnitedHealth Group. Before that, he was with DaVita Medical Group, which he joined in 2014, and played the dual roles of Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy with responsibility for marketing, communications and business development and President of DaVita Medical Group’s California market. As president he oversaw a community of medical groups caring for patients through an integrated delivery network.
Jim also has a background as Partner at Bain & Company where he spent 14 years in the company’s healthcare practice. At Bain, Jim advised large health systems, physician groups and health insurers on a variety of business planning and operational initiatives, including market strategies, joint ventures and operational structure, strategic partnership formation, physician recruitment, clinical integration and population health management.
Early in his career, Jim ran operations for a nonprofit health and human services clinic in Indianapolis, Indiana, and served in the United States Peace Corps in the Congo directing a two-year public health project.He received a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Arts from DePauw University. Jim serves as a board member for the DePauw Board of Visitors.
